GUND ARENA

At whatever arena the Cleveland Cavaliers played at back in the early 90s, I think it was called the Gund Arena but I could be wrong, they actually had a banner that read “Michael Jordan is the Devil.”  Now I think that that’s pretty funny and I realize that Jordan had hit a few game-winning shots that had killed the Cavs’ championship hopes and he had had some of his greatest performances at their expense, but part of me used to wonder if that was taking the whole thing too far.  I mean, in the end, it’s just a game.  Whether or not the Cavs win a game, let alone the NBA world championship, has little to no effect on nearly the entire population of Cleveland.  In fact, it has little effect on America and even less on the entire world itself.  I know that sports fans live vicariously through their teams and plan their whole lives around watching their games, but it’s not that important.  Sports are just entertainment.  While I realize they generate a large amount of money for the city the teams play in, at the end of the day, they don’t mean as much as the laws the city’s passing or how fast and smoothly the trains are running or how much taxes you’re paying or anything like that.
